A clearer view of Australian pay.

Salary Calculator Australia is a free tool for turning a gross salary into a realistic take-home figure. It is built for Australian workers, job seekers and anyone comparing an offer.

What we do

We apply published Australian tax rates, the Medicare levy, HELP repayment thresholds and superannuation rules to your salary. Results are shown live, per year and per pay period.

What we donโ€™t do

We donโ€™t provide personal tax advice, lodge returns or replace a payslip. The calculator does not include salary sacrifice, work deductions, private health rebates or family income tests.

How the estimate is built

01

Annualise the salary

The amount you enter is converted to an annual figure using 12 months, 26 fortnights, 52 weeks or 1,976 hours. If you include super in your package, the base salary is separated first.

02

Apply the tax rules for the year

Resident, non-resident, working holiday and no-tax-free-threshold rates are applied progressively. The low income tax offset is included for standard residents where it applies.

03

Add levies and study loans

The 2% Medicare levy includes the low-income reduction. HELP repayments use the total-income method for 2024โ€“25 and marginal rates from 2025โ€“26 onwards.

04

Show super and net pay

Employer super is calculated on the super guarantee rate, capped at the annualised maximum contribution base. Net pay is the base salary minus tax, Medicare and HELP.

Official sources

Rates and thresholds are checked against the Australian Taxation Office. Superannuation figures are checked against ATO super guarantee guidance.

A note on accuracy

The calculator is designed to give a close, transparent estimate for a typical employee. Real tax outcomes depend on your full income, residency status, deductions, offsets, study loan balance and employer arrangements. Always confirm your position with the ATO or a registered tax agent.
