How it works
A payslip in three steps.
No spreadsheets, no jargon. The calculator follows the same order as an Australian income tax return — gross pay, taxable income, tax, levies and study loans.
Every estimate includes
- Resident, non-resident and working holiday rates
- 2% Medicare levy with low-income reduction
- HECS/HELP marginal repayment thresholds
- 11.5% and 12% super guarantee rates
- Super contribution base cap
- Annual, monthly, fortnightly, weekly and hourly pay
- 01
Start with your gross pay
Choose annual, monthly, fortnightly, weekly or hourly. We convert it to an annual salary so the tax rules line up correctly. An hourly rate assumes a 38-hour week.
- 02
Apply the right rules
Select the financial year, super rate and your circumstances. The calculator applies resident, non-resident, working holiday or second-job tax rules, plus Medicare and HELP where relevant.
- 03
See your real take-home
The result panel breaks down tax, Medicare, HELP and super, then shows your net pay per year, month, fortnight, week and hour. Change anything and it updates instantly.

Salary guide
Australian salary calculator: from gross pay to net salary
If you have ever accepted a job offer and then wondered where the money went, this salary calculator Australia tool turns a headline figure into something you can plan around. It estimates your take-home pay using ATO income tax rates, the Medicare levy, HECS/HELP repayment thresholds and superannuation rules for 2024–25, 2025–26 and 2026–27. Enter a salary, choose a pay period and the calculator returns your net income in seconds.
How this after tax salary calculator works
The calculator follows the same order as an Australian income tax return. It starts with your gross salary, converts it to an annual figure, applies the progressive tax rates for the financial year you select, then adds the Medicare levy and any compulsory study loan repayment. Low income earners receive the low income tax offset where eligible, and the Medicare levy is reduced or removed below the ATO thresholds. Superannuation is handled separately because employer contributions are not part of your taxable salary.
Because every step is shown, you can see exactly how much goes to income tax and how much stays in your bank account. That transparency is what makes it useful as an after tax salary calculator: nothing is hidden behind a single result.
Net salary calculator for every pay period
Most people think in the period they are paid, not in annual totals. A good net salary calculator should therefore answer the question in the unit you actually use. This one converts your pay automatically:
- Annual salary to yearly, monthly, fortnightly, weekly and hourly net pay
- Hourly rates converted using a 38-hour week
- Super included in your package, or paid on top
- Instant recalculation whenever a setting changes
2026–27 tax rates and what they mean for your pay
The 2026–27 financial year brings one notable change for residents: the 16% rate on income between $18,201 and $45,000 falls to 15%. Taxable income from $45,001 to $135,000 is taxed at 30%, income from $135,001 to $190,000 at 37%, and income above $190,000 at 45%. The tax-free threshold remains $18,200, and the Medicare levy remains 2% for most taxpayers. The super guarantee has been 12% since 1 July 2025, and HELP repayments have used marginal rates since 2025–26, which means a pay rise no longer pushes your whole debt repayment to a higher rate. These details matter, because a small rate change can move your net pay by hundreds of dollars a year.
After tax salary examples for common incomes
Numbers are easier to trust when you can compare them. Using 2026–27 resident rates, the Medicare levy and no HELP debt, the calculator estimates the following annual take-home pay:
- $60,000 gross → $50,380 a year, or about $4,198 a month.
- $80,000 gross → $63,880 a year, or about $5,323 a month.
- $100,000 gross → $77,480 a year, or about $6,457 a month.
- $120,000 gross → $91,080 a year, or about $7,590 a month.
- $150,000 gross → $110,430 a year, or about $9,203 a month.
These figures are estimates, not quotes. Your final amount depends on your deductions, whether you have a HELP debt, your visa status, salary sacrifice arrangements and any additional income you earn during the year.
Why your take-home pay may differ from your payslip
Employers withhold tax using PAYG withholding tables, which spread your annual tax across each pay cycle. A payslip can also include allowances, overtime, leave loading, bonuses, salary sacrifice, novated leases, union fees and other deductions that an annual estimate does not capture. If you salary sacrifice into super, your taxable income falls and your take-home pay changes. If you have a second job and claim the tax-free threshold twice, you may owe tax at the end of the year. Use this salary calculator Australia residents rely on as a planning guide, then check your payslip and myGov for the exact figures.
Who can use this Australian salary calculator
The tool supports Australian residents, foreign residents, working holiday makers on a 417 or 462 visa, and anyone who has already claimed the tax-free threshold elsewhere. You can compare financial years to see how a raise, a change in the super rate or a new HELP threshold affects your net pay. Because everything runs in your browser, your salary is never uploaded or stored. It is a private, free Australian salary calculator you can use as often as you like, on desktop or mobile.

The breakdown
What comes out of your pay.
Australian salaries are quoted gross. Between your offer and your bank account sit four things worth understanding.
Super is not taken out of your salary when your employer pays it on top. If your package includes super, it is separated before tax.
Income tax
Progressive rates from 15% to 45%. The more you earn, the higher the rate on the next dollar — not on your whole salary.
Medicare levy
A 2% levy on taxable income for most residents. Low-income earners may pay less, and some visa holders are exempt.
HECS/HELP
A compulsory study loan repayment collected through the ATO. In 2026–27 it starts at 15c per dollar above $69,528.
Superannuation
Your employer’s 12% contribution to your retirement fund. It is invested for later, not spendable take-home pay today.
Questions
Salary questions, answered.
The things people ask most about take-home pay, super, Medicare and HELP.
Try the calculatorHow is take-home pay calculated in Australia?
Your take-home pay is your gross salary minus income tax, the Medicare levy and any compulsory HECS/HELP repayment. Employer superannuation is usually paid on top of your salary and is not part of your take-home pay. This calculator applies the progressive resident tax rates for the financial year you select, then adds the 2% Medicare levy and any HELP repayment.
Which financial year should I choose?
Choose 2026–27 for income earned between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027. Choose 2025–26 or 2024–25 for earlier years. Resident rates are identical in 2024–25 and 2025–26; the 16% rate falls to 15% in 2026–27. The super guarantee rate has been 12% since 1 July 2025, and HELP repayments have used marginal rates since 2025–26.
Is superannuation included in my salary?
By default, super is treated as an extra amount paid by your employer on top of your salary. If your contract quotes a total package that includes super, turn on “Include super in salary”. The calculator will then separate your base salary from the super component before working out tax.
How much is the Medicare levy?
The Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income for most Australian residents. Low-income earners may pay a reduced amount or none at all. The latest ATO single low-income thresholds are $28,011 (lower) and $35,013 (upper), used here for 2025–26 and 2026–27. Foreign residents and most working holiday makers are exempt.
How does HECS/HELP repayment work in 2026–27?
From 2025–26, HELP repayments use marginal rates. In 2026–27 you repay nothing below $69,528, then 15 cents for every dollar from $69,528 to $129,717. Between $129,717 and $186,050 the repayment is $9,028 plus 17 cents per dollar over $129,717. Above $186,050, the repayment is 10% of your total repayment income.
What is the tax-free threshold?
The tax-free threshold is $18,200 for Australian residents. If you are a foreign resident, a working holiday maker, or you have chosen “No tax-free threshold” because you claim it on another job, this calculator applies the relevant rules without the standard threshold.
How are working holiday makers taxed?
Working holiday makers on a 417 or 462 visa pay 15% on their first $45,000 of taxable income, then the normal marginal rates apply above that. They generally do not pay the Medicare levy and are not entitled to the low income tax offset.
Why is this different from my payslip?
Employers withhold tax using PAYG withholding tables, which spread annual tax across your pay cycle. A payslip can also include allowances, overtime, leave loading, salary sacrifice, novated leases, study loan repayments, union fees and other deductions. This calculator is an annual estimate, not a payslip replacement.
Does the calculator store my salary or personal details?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser. The salary, super rate and tax settings you enter are not sent to a server, stored in an account or shared with third parties.
